Gen. Yoweri Museveni (1944) is son of Amos Kaguta (1916–2013) & Esteri Kokundeka Nganzi (1918–2001), a Muhima of Mpororo. His name “Museveni” comes from “mu-seven,” linked to his father’s service in the King’s African Rifles 7th Bn in WWII.

John Garang de Mabior (June 23, 1945–July 30, 2005) was a Sudanese revolutionary leader who headed the SPLA/M (1983–2005) during the Second Sudanese Civil War. He became Sudan’s First Vice President after the 2005 peace deal but died in a helicopter crash weeks later.
