We completed our “Big Dig” activity this morning! Fifth graders are learning about studying a culture from an archaeologist’s perspective.

We had our first Amazing Earth lesson this week on force and motion. Thank you to our parent volunteers for making this possible! 😊

Ms. Hansen’s and Ms. Zogby’s classes went on a field trip to the Walker Nature Center today! We practiced identifying and classifying different rocks and minerals. We also learned about the layers of the earth!

Last week, our wonderful parent volunteers led our class in a Great Art lesson about public art. We painted rocks with a nature theme and placed them in our SVES rock garden.

This week, our parent volunteers led us in an Amazing Earth lesson and activity about volcanoes. We learned about different types of volcanoes and how they erupt, which can sometimes be quite explosive!

Last week, we met with our 1st grade buddies and shared our narrative nonfiction stories about ocean animals. The 1st graders also took turns reading some of their favorite books to the 5th graders!

In science this week, we learned about convergent, divergent, and transform plate boundaries. We conducted an experiment to simulate tectonic plates moving over Earth’s mantle.

This past week, our class learned about sound waves! Our wonderful volunteers led the class in activities with tuning forks, making harmonicas, and demonstrating different types of sound waves.

5th grade is learning about the history of the Middle Ages through an educational simulation of feudalism. This past week, they competed in a friendly tournament of Nine Men’s Morris to determine who our king or queen would be.
