What’s a hungry polar bear to do? Wait.. and wait, sometimes for hours at a breathing hole in the ice. When a seal finally pops up for air, dinner is served. Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) can fast for long periods of time—in fact, pregnant females don’t feed for 8 months!
