Dr Sally Ruane, 'It's true to say that the NHS is bigger now than it's ever been in the past. It's even true to say it's got record levels of funding and there are more staff working there than at any time in the past'

'But there has been a big shift in the government's approach…

The number of in England continues to fall. Based on the government’s pledge of an additional 6k more GPs by March 2024, we would expect there to be around 33,800 GPs as of December 2023, but data suggests there are only around 27,500.

Here’s a snapshot of just 20 letters rec’d this afternoon from hospital & other NHS colleagues

Half need us to do something eg refer, order investigations, send info back

It’s not just GP time, but admin & secretarial too - when 95% staff are in hospitals

There is no ‘backstory’ to ending of 2/care NHS Practitioner Health other than (we’re told) - no budget. To remind, it was established following suicide of a psychiatry who also killed her baby and highlighted the barriers doctors have in accessing mental health care.

Why are doctors leaving? GMC has tried to find out…

Here’s a clue: 98% of doctors voted to strike, three times in a row, over PAY. 🤔

Unfortunately, as an “apolitical” organisation (when it suits the govt agenda) the GMC is blind to the blindingly obvious.

This is disastrous, hideous news. NHS England are hacking back the mental health support for hospital staff. One doctor takes their life every three weeks. One nurse takes their life every single week. These numbers will now INCREASE. Victoria Atkins - please do the right thing.

This week, The BMA deputy chair of council Emma Runswick 🏳️‍🌈 appeared on BBC Panorama to highlight how some RMOs in private hospitals are working up to 168 hours a week.

It's an issue we've covered before... [1/2]

As a medical student and junior doctor , we spent hours being taught how to break bad news to patients. Now patients are finding out about awful diagnoses and results on the nhs app before speaking to anyone. How has it come to this and exactly who is this good for? NHS England

This is so incredibly dangerous to patients that I can't even begin to explain.

A fully qualified doctor would require 5 years medical school, at the very minimum a further five / six years of full yime clinical training and passing several professional exams before being…

There is no ‘spare capacity’ in the private sector that does not further undermine the NHS
Like a parasite it sucks NHS staff and funding away from frontline services, gives nothing back, and fundamentally weakens the NHS for all - as we see in dentistry, cataract surgery, GP…

Data from 21/22 is absolutely not reflective of where we are now. Cashflow is a major problem for practices going into 24/25.

I’m a former hospital consultant but one thing I’ve never understood is why GP is funded so poorly. With the UK model of healthcare well functioning primary care is absolutely essential & extremely efficient & means the rest of the system has a chance of working well for pts.
