The number of #GPs in England continues to fall. Based on the government’s pledge of an additional 6k more GPs by March 2024, we would expect there to be around 33,800 GPs as of December 2023, but data suggests there are only around 27,500.

It’s not just GP time, but admin & secretarial too - when 95% staff are in hospitals

There is no ‘backstory’ to ending of 2/care NHS Practitioner Health other than (we’re told) - no budget. To remind, it was established following suicide of a psychiatry who also killed her baby and highlighted the barriers doctors have in accessing mental health care.

This is disastrous, hideous news. NHS England are hacking back the mental health support for hospital staff. One doctor takes their life every three weeks. One nurse takes their life every single week. These numbers will now INCREASE. Victoria Atkins - please do the right thing.

There is no ‘spare capacity’ in the private sector that does not further undermine the NHS
Like a parasite it sucks NHS staff and funding away from frontline services, gives nothing back, and fundamentally weakens the NHS for all - as we see in dentistry, cataract surgery, GP…

Data from 21/22 is absolutely not reflective of where we are now. Cashflow is a major problem for practices going into 24/25.

I’m a former hospital consultant but one thing I’ve never understood is why GP is funded so poorly. With the UK model of healthcare well functioning primary care is absolutely essential & extremely efficient & means the rest of the system has a chance of working well for pts.
