The 2007 Chase, in my view, was “corrective” in the sense that the team with the higher speed ceiling all year long, the 48, was properly rewarded in the end due to the fact that they showed a higher capacity for race winning speed during the “prove it” portion of the season.

Tough debate but Prime Jimmie dominated in an era that was competitively deeper across every domain of the sport compared to the one Prime Gordon operated in. Gordon maybe gets an edge on competitive longevity but Jimmie's peak was higher and against better competition.

One of my favorite "what ifs" in U.S. motorsports. If this place was repaved, it would be gnarly. Same length as Michigan but with more banking. It would almost certainly be a "drafting" track in today's NASCAR, with its own unique set of racing nuances. It was

Quite a positive show of teamwork here between NASCAR and the teams. Awesome to see this especially in light of last year's lawsuit.

I don't think people outside of the industry realize just how much $$$ it takes for a top-tier, factory-supported young driver to move through the ranks to get to Cup. Pick just about any top-flight Cup driver today, even ones that people assume didn't have a rich benefactor

I see perplexing results like this from time to time and then have to remind myself of the classic 90-9-1 rule of the internet. Sort of a dead internet theory adjacent concept. 90% of users passively consume content without engaging, 9% engage with content, 1% create content.

I think this is actually the most intelligent distillation of Hocevar's appeal. No disrespect to most of today's Cup drivers, but there does seem to be a distinct lack of enthusiasm amongst some of them around being a NASCAR Cup driver, particularly being a modern Cup driver. I
