The opposite of schadenfreude is "freudenfreude" — the bliss you feel when someone else succeeds, even if it doesn't directly involve you. The benefits are plentiful but don't always come easily. Here's how to experience more freudenfreude.nyti.ms/3H5WlwD

A reporter asked me: why do I wish people “happy holidays“? Because from 1 November to 15 January there are approximately 29 holidays observed by 7 of the world’s major religions. And I don’t think mine are the only ones that count. There’s no war on Christmas…

It was an incredible weekend as we celebrated the final installment of Rachmaninoff’s symphonic legacy with conductor Peter Oundjian and violinist Alina Ibragimova!

I love listening to Mahler, there are three states of listening to Mahler: 1. Wow this man has a lot of feelings 2. Oh yeah! This is THIS one 3. It has been this symphony for a long time now

Sadly, there are likely a number of orchestras more likely to have her take their podium as a marketing stunt than to actually hire a trained, qualified, and experienced conductor who is a woman. I’m afraid this film has done nothing to further that cause. Quite the opposite.

Dear UPS, I sure wish you would stop delivering my packages to the house down the street that has a 4 in the house number instead of a 3. Also, a screen that says “delivered to front door” is NOT proof of delivery.

What a sunrise in #Pittsburgh this morning. With all of the clouds I wasn't really expecting much color, but the sky started to light up almost 40 minutes before sunrise. I took advantage of the spring color to frame the bridge and sky and it made for an amazing scene.

"Music is an act of love, that is why it is so rewarding. But the way I am really rewarded is when I feel that I am up there creating the music note by note, that I am writing myself as we are playing it - then I know it is a good concert." -Leonard Bernstein, 1971

I never thought to include the entirety of the Duquesne Incline track along with the moon...until this morning. Might be one of my new favorite #Pittsburgh moon images. Single exposure, not a composite, and the conditions were just perfect. Can't wait to get this printed.
