The playground was more than playtime—it was life's first classroom. We learned to solve disputes, persevere, take turns, embrace teamwork, and build friendships. This picture brings back so many wonderful memories!

Spent the day learning about Teaching Black Literature(s), facilitated by Donise Scheffler & Loretta Ngo. The PL day was centred around the idea of a “Homeplace” and Black joy. I love when these kinds of sessions leave you thinking even when you’ve returned home. Also got books!

As a teacher, sometimes you read something a student wrote and you want to just shout to the entire world how incredible it is. And then you realize how lucky you are to get a front-row seat to the journey it took for those words to arrive there. One day I'm going to miss this.

Tomorrow I begin teaching at a new school after almost 3 years at my previous one. I have the usual first-day jitters but I’m excited for this next step. Nothing is constant but change!

The more and more I see teachers, new teachers, teachers in training, and admin, the more and more I am coming to the realization that equity work in education can’t be compelled. People have to want to contribute to society in an equitable way.

There is no script for teaching with the margins in mind. The answer is NO when the question is, “Can you just tell us what to say?” The work of inclusion cannot be bottled up, deposited, and subsequently regurgitated. Please know it’s more than simply saying the right thing.

To the friends and colleagues who cared about Judy jujumaqq is a free Black woman and were helped and influenced by her gifts and talents, her funeral is being arranged. Her Mother, the first Ms. McKeown, and I (her sister) hope that it will be LATE NEXT WEEK. Please amplify.

Judy’s light will keep shining through every life she touched. Her kindness, humour, and unparalleled equity work changed my teaching practice, and I’ll forever be grateful for her generous guidance. Sending you and your mom love.
