It feels like there’s a tiny (don’t jinx it…) bit of breathing space happening without Year 11/13… If you or your dept. are creating new Shakespeare SOW, I’d love to give away another free copy of #HowToGetA9inShakespeare. Just RT & ♥️ #giveaway #comp #CPD #teamenglish

In September I’m teaching A Level English Language (AQA) for the first time. Our sixth form was established this year so I’m starting from scratch. If anyone could share any resources or recommendations of books/CPD it would be greatly appreciated! Team English #teamenglish

Starting to plan units on Language Change and Language Discourses for AQA A-Level English Language. If anyone would be kind enough to share any resources/expertise OR point me in the right direction to helpful texts, that would be amazing! @EngLangBlog Team English

I noted on centre services that the mark schemes for the AQA A level physics exams are out. Every year I sit down and answer the questions as a student would. When the mark schemes come out I mark them honestly and see how I did. It's great CPD. Here's how I did... 🧵/1

If you want an intro lesson on Child Language Acquisition you could try something I did this week. Watch some clips of babies (links below) and ask sts to note down ideas in response to the qu: How are these babies communicating? Students are likely to raise 1

Let’s talk about characters as devices… 🧵 Lots of the time, character will fall into 3 groups: - role models - warnings - plot devices. Teaching students which of these they are can be really helpful when moving students to understanding that texts are constructs…

What a gorgeous email 🥰 This student arrived in the UK in October 2023 having not been taught a British-based education yet alone any GCSE content before and yet he achieved a 5 in both English Language and Literature! A great reminder of why I love teaching.

At a secondary level, more so with exam classes, once you strip out behaviour as a factor the next big ticket item is subject knowledge. Without this you cannot truly stretch & challenge kids.
