Swapping some time with the Art teacher today so my kids can finish a project which means I get to teach Kindergarten Art. I'm excited and nervous and I have all my Elephant and Piggie books ready in case everything starts to fall apart.

I had another teacher walk into my room while kids were working on a projects and refer to me as “the king of chaos”. That tracks.

I’m out with COVID symptoms, will have test results tomorrow, but I’m going to be out tomorrow either way. What are your favorite activities to put on sub plans? Either for tomorrow or just to have in my back pocket.

Whenever I hear, "Schools need to be open so parents can work!" I get it, but I just want to go, "Which parents?" Because I'm pretty sure the parents picking asparagus at 3 AM have never been afforded that luxury. Or anyone working a closing shift at McDonald's.

It's a normal school day, the school doesn't start for another 20 minutes and I'm totally prepared for the day. For some reason, it feels like a bad omen.

I wish I could tell this group of kids that they are the funniest group of kids I’ve had, but then they would start trying too hard and stop being funny.

Today is Friday. The last 2 days were snow days. The kids earned a PJ day. They also beat me in Gimkit, which means they get donuts. There is also a greater than zero chance of indoor recess. Could be a wild one today.

I like days like today, where I know based on the circumstances that the day is going to be crazy and can plan around that. If you can redirect that energy into silliness and review it becomes a much more fun day and a lot less stressful.

I just walked past a student watching TikTok videos. Almost snapped and told her to put her phone away. Then I looked closer. They were videos about how to integrate your evidence in your writing. As much as I want to stomp phones most days, this was a good reminder for me.
