My favourite paper from our next 💡T&L Spotlight💡 is this one on Think-Pair-Share. It found that using a combo of individual thinking time, paired discussions and giving time for pupils to raise their hand improved participation in whole class discussions and confidence

A few myths to dispel: 1. Teachers are not paid for the holidays. You read that right, teachers are not paid for the holidays. They could be classed as TOIL for the unpaid overtime they routinely do, but actually they are just not paid (despite many working, prepping etc.).

Can anyone signpost me towards somebody/a primary setting that are successful with their spelling attainment? We need support. We read the research but it’s difficult transferring that to the classroom. We want to know how schools are successfully producing good spellers.

6/ So, here's the link. How long it all takes is entirely up to you. I know someone who said all they wanted to in 10 minutes - it took me a bit longer! But please, this is our best chance of real change. Go for it! (ends) committees.parliament.uk/work/7761/ofst…

I hope that th framework is not changed again because of this. The most recent curriculum focused change was for the better - I think. But it’s taken an insurmountable amount of work to get there. Changing the goal posts now would be the final nail in the coffin for many staff.

How do you choose high quality texts for reading lessons? We need some new ones for our year sixes next year but I’m interested how others choose theirs. Christopher Such

Hello - I wrote a new blog about the teaching of whole class reading, which I haven't in a while. It's over 9000 words so quite a read, but I hope the comprehensive nature of it comes across as helpful, rather than patronising. Anyway - hope it's useful! mrboothy6.wordpress.com/2025/01/03/who…

This was a phenomenal. I’m not sure I’ve read anything that bridges the gap between reading research and the primary classroom as excellently as this book does. It’s a genuine must read for all educators.

Inspired by the Three Body Problem (read it if you haven't, it's great), I've written about how we might try to *radically* increase educational outcomes.
