29 November 1781. The crew of the British slave ship, Zong, murdered 133 Africans by dumping them into the sea. Upon the Zong’s arrival in Jamaica, James Gregson, the ship’s owner, filed an insurance claim for their loss. It was initially granted, but invalidated after an appeal.
