As a predominantly rational person, I find it strange how very emotional people can get about trivial stuff, which doesn't have any bearing on their lives. And how they largely ignore the clear signs of our rapidly changing planet, which will affect all our and future lives.

"Brazil could record its highest temperature in history during this winter heatwave." Read that again. It's still winter in Brazil and they are approaching all-time record hottest temperatures for *any* month in *any* year. We are in a climate emergency.

New York's old rainfall record stood for 150 years until 2021, and has now been broken three times. Hot air holds more water vapor than cold; flooding follows fossil fuel combustion as night follows day.

Spain just witnessed its hottest October day on record with 38.2°C (101°F) at Montoro. Incredible warmth for this time of year.

The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.

It's now official: Yesterday was the hottest October day on record in France. High temperatures soared as high as 35.8°C - Which is now the hottest temperature ever recorded in October in France. Crazy.
