BREAKING: Rishi Sunak is new UK Prime Minister. He’ll be the first British-Asian PM & first Hindu PM, and at 42, the youngest PM in modern times. I’ve backed Rishi Sunak for a long time, think he’s the right guy for the job, and wish him every success.

Brief thoughts on Sunak. 1) Genuinely moving and heartening to see the first British Asian prime minister. No caveat or sarcasm whatsoever. He'll go down in history for that alone and he deserves to.

I’m in the chemo clinic watching Rishi Sunak become the first person of colour to be PM. For a 1st generation migrant like me, born in Sri Lanka, it is a moment of great pride to live in a European country where this is possible. Racism is not over, but we’re on the right path.
