I do not have an answer for the current situation our schools are experiencing, I wish I did — but I do know the answer is not packets of worksheets sent home with students to complete. Just sayin...

@Maire_from_NJ There is something about requiring a student in their own home/space to comply with stringent virtual expectations or protocols. The uncomforability and inequities these “rules” create will hopefully give teachers some pause before they institute them.

If districts are expecting teachers to teach online and for students to sit at a computer screen for 5 to 6 hours per day then you need to rethink your plan. Because that's not effective teaching and learning. That is not how virtual schools do it because it does NOT work.

𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 If education is going into this trying to replicate "school" online instead of re-thinking education, they have missed the single most significant opportunity that will arise in their lifetime.

I'm not into public shaming but shame on districts who are making teachers teach both f2f and virtually (just put a camera in your room and record for students at home - what's the big deal?). These are two separate jobs. Students deserve better. Teachers deserve better.

The age-old mantra you learn as a 1st year teacher, "better to over-plan than under-plan" probably doesn't apply in the remote world. When in the classroom with real children, we adjust. It's 8 pm and my 9th grader, working since 8 am, just took her first potty & food break.

Nations always progress through the following sequence: From bondage to great faith; From faith to great courage; courage to liberty; liberty to abundance; abundance to selfishness; selfishness to complacency; complacency to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.
