Today we started looking at the relationship between repeated addition and multiplication. It is amazing to see the connections and deep understanding Ss make when they use concrete tools. They composed and decomposed numbers using same ‘copies’ of rods.

This week we found out clocks are full of math...fractions, multiplication, measurements, circular number lines and so much more!

This week Ss investigated 3D solids and explored nets. Ss noticed that they could predict the solid it made by looking at the shape and number of faces. They also noticed there were multiple ways to make nets for the same solid. Lots of great math collaboration and discussions!

Today the Ss were working on representing and ordering numbers using ten frames. They built a number path and changed it into ten frames. Then Ss represented a number of their choice and ordered them. We noticed that as the numbers get larger, there are more dots and frames.

The grade 3 classes have been embracing the beautiful weather as we take time to notice the beauty and important roles of plants. Our new pet caterpillars (now chrysalis) are so happy to see us learning about milkweed.

Completed our first Friday STEM Challenge today. Ss tapped into their creative problem solving to build a newly discovered plant using Lego. We can’t wait to write about their characteristics and share them using a green screen.

So amazed by the problem solving skills of the grade 3 Ss as they sorted and organized objects into venn and carroll diagrams.

Another amazing STEM Friday as the grade 3s use their knowledge about seeds to create a seed dispersal mechanism. I loved all the collaborative problem solving!

Our STEM Friday focus was on plant adaptations. Ss have been learning about the many ways plants adapt to survive in various habitats and protect themselves from animals. I was so amazed to see them incorporate new learning from our inquiry.
