1. The most troubling aspect of the discourse about SLANT etc has been the conflation of so many conditions and individual circumstances into 'this is exclusive to children with SEND.' A few things it is important to get below..

After 5 years working at the Primary Campus, I still couldn't recommend our wonderful school enough.
As a leadership team, we work really hard to create an environment where staff and children can thrive. And...we're recruiting for a primary teacher to join our wonderful team!โœจ

Leadership is about time.

Itโ€™s about creating more time. For innovation. For connection. For reflection.

Itโ€™s about stopping the waste of time, on pointless admin, on meetings that could be an email, on activity that is for the sake of activity.

Itโ€™s about saving timeโ€ฆ

I think this is one of the most important messages for primary curriculum design: if we start with identifying the concepts, it can help us consider how much time each subject needs in each year. This might help us avoid overloaded SoWs - fewer things in greater depth

The good news is that there are plenty of concepts, but there arenโ€™t too many. Where is the best place to look for them? There are two main sources:

How concepts help pupils to learn the curriculum

It turns out that if we identify the concepts aka big ideas and teach pupils these, then they are likely to know more, remember more and be able to do more, over time...

Mining for student mistakes (& misconceptions) isn't just good for learning.

Done well, it can also strengthen classroom culture. Here's how:

๐ŸงตWhat the world needs now...

There is so much noise at the moment. Sometimes it's so deafening I shut down. Much of the noise has a personal and professional overlap for me. I am torn between shouting into the abyss and finding an island far away.
Today a thread...

*1/3* of 5-7 year olds have *unsupervised access* to social media. This is insane. Parents please take the phones off your children. Itโ€™s not a baby sitter. Itโ€™s a window into every horror humanity can imagine, and at best itโ€™s a mindless attention hoover that teaches children toโ€ฆ
