What a great first few days as Head Teacher. I feel very lucky to be part of such a great team and community! I have been made to feel very welcome.

Such a great morning working on our school song project with Echline Primary & Nursery Class today. Our music education students from Edinburgh Napier University are helping the P7 classes to write a song for the school. Wonderful ideas and enthusiasm from the young people. A joy to see this take shape!

First term as Head Teacher complete! What a wonderful school, so many amazing things have happened this term. Looking forward to relaxing and catching up on all the books I want to read.

This really excites me and shows the possibilities of play across a school. Key point about not jumping straight to this though, and ensuring there is purpose and rigour behind this pedagogy.

I can definitely see why this was so hotly anticipated. Unlike anything I’ve read before, exploring themes such as community, the empire and racism whilst asking existential and spiritual questions. Need to read again to see what I really think 🤔

Love this poster about Social Reading Environments from Reading for Pleasure 🧶 …first time I’ve heard the term ‘textual playgrounds’ but I like it 👍

What an excellent book. Full of exciting action, magic and adventure. Didn’t want it to end. Great as a class novel or an independent read further up the school. Also fantastic to have a strong female lead challenging stereotypes throughout 👍Catherine Doyle

Just reading a great article from Alyson Simpson and Teresa Cremin about reading and social justice where reading is described as “a weapon of mindful disruption” what a lovely phrase, couldn’t agree more. Reading for Pleasure 🧶 Teresa Cremin

So many great adventure stories for children at the moment, but this feels different! It was dark, kept me guessing till the end and Oakhammer was terrifyingly twisted as a bad character! Felt a bit like Game of thrones for younger readers! Aisling Fowler

So great to be out at Echline Primary & Nursery Class again last week with our Edinburgh Napier University music students. We’re working with the young people to write their school song! Amazing ideas and incredible work from the pupils. Song written - next stop, the recording studio… 🎧 🎵 🎤

***BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT *** 🧵 In this thread, I have summarised some of Dr Bill Rogers’ top behaviour management strategies. Each one is supported with an old-school video. “You establish what you establish”

What an exciting project from start to finish! Such a pleasure to see the creativity from the amazing children of Echline Primary & Nursery Class! The song is fantastic and we can’t wait to share with everyone. Enormous thanks to Edinburgh Napier University students and Zack Moir for making this happen!

Started reading Fable House by @elnorry_writer and I am already blown away by the characters, shocked by some of the cruelty and transfixed by the magic and mystery. Can’t put it down!

I really enjoy exploring opportunities for extending thinking beyond just quickly reaching the right answer. In any subject, but especially Maths.
