Head of History. Inevitably trying to bring up medieval history and #SaintsFC into everyday conversation. You came for the pedagogy, stayed for the memes.

This is exactly the backing we need as #historyteacher's. We're not a crusade to make children hate Britain, just teaching the empire of colonialism for what it was. I also discussed the Churchill duality with Year 8 this week when we explored his desire to block Windrush.

3. Why did you say that "Teachers are advised to present the British Empire to secondary pupils like Nazi Germany, as a power that 'committed atrocities'", when neither the old nor the current version of the guidance says any such thing?

A new EQ, How can we uncover the lives of medieval peasants? I love the puzzle analogy that I can introduce to Year 7 in their first half-term next year. The best bit? The final puzzle piece morphs to complete the puzzle at the end of the SOW. #historyteacher

Should add that this doesnt exactly include all of the complexity that I'll explain to pupils about the past. If not careful pupils might think we can know everything or be 100% accurate which of course we can't be, some bigger puzzle piecee are missing/faded/torn #historyteacher

More of us think school is about getting kids ready for work than passing exams? Sounds boring to me. Ngl, the cool History stories I tell aren't gonna help anyone at work (don't hit me with soft skills) but they'll make their life interesting!

I love doing quizzes at the end of term that actually test learning (mwahaha) but I chuck in Taskmaster point scoring tasks. The simplest is a History pun team name. Got the best one ever this year. Dyslexic King Cnut. Iconic. #historyteacher

🧵 about #class #privilege and #privateeducation. Watching the Olympic swimming last night and Clare Balding said something in such an incredulous tone which summed up the establishment perspective and how their experience differs. 1/

Today is Lammas, an Anglo-Saxon harvest festival celebrated on 1 August. The name comes from 'hlafmæsse', 'loaf-mass', a feast of bread, and it may have been a day for blessing loaves of bread made from the first wheat of the harvest. patreon.com/posts/life-loa…

Me with books: I am bound by a covenant to only read one at a time. My fidelity with only one read is sacred and shall never be broken. Me with video games: Oh I have like 16 on the go. Tried a few new ones for 10 minutes before going back to Skyrim. There's always next summer.

So I guess my first tutor group will be heading off for uni, starting apprenticeships or work this month. Starting the big next thing. They were 11 like yesterday; I think I'm now old. I hope they're okay.
