Study by my genius friend to CURE DEAFNESS cancelled because, I shit you not: "Research programs based primarily on artificial and non-scientific categories, including amorphous equity objectives, are antithetical to the scientific inquiry". Decel anti-science brain-dead take.

America's housing crisis contains two problems: Above-cost housing & low incomes YIMBYism can cut rents down to construction costs, but it can't help poverty. Or can it? Turns out an Austin-style 15% rent drop would cut Californian poverty by as much as the Child Tax Credit 👇

It seems like each political wing is coalescing around a unique brand of technopessimism: anti-automation luddism on the left, and phobia of science manipulating physical matter on the right (lab meat, cloud seeding, mrna vaccines, etc.)

In my head I’ve started referring to political quadrants in terms of properties of their preferred coordination networks. Top two are centralized. Bottom two are distributed. Left two are symmetric (aka egalitarian). Right two are asymmetric.

If you multiply what you'd pay someone on Fiverr to redraw a photo in the style of Studio Ghibli (o3 guesses $30-60) by how many people probably Ghiblified with 4o, and how many times they did it, you realize that we will have no sane way to measure the impact of AI on GDP.

Adding this incredible chart from Derek Thompson to the mix. There has been an enormous decline in in-person socialization that has corresponded with massive declines in mental wellbeing and dramatic increases in selfishness and political radicalism over the past decade.

will ubiquitous robotics debaumolize our spaces? will the servant wing return in the form of a special room for kitchen, laundry, etc hidden away and used primarily by the family robot?

When you think through the long term implications of bundling local Gemini directly into Chrome, it's obvious why OpenAI, Perplexity, etc. are building browsers Expect to see more join the race
