Visiting Ukraine, I am struck by the courage of its people. As Okean Elzy sing, “Я не здамся без бою” — I won’t give up without a fight. Their resilience in the face of adversity is inspiring. 💙💛

Today in Ukraine, I witnessed the devastation left by Russia’s brutal attacks — homes destroyed, families grieving, lives cut short. But Ukraine is not alone. The EU stands shoulder to shoulder with this brave nation, providing unwavering support until peace and justice prevail.

A long-awaited and reassuring meeting with DSNS.GOV.UA Head Andrii Danyk. Every day, Ukrainian rescuers risk their lives to save others, inspiring Europe with their courage. Proud that the EU and SESU are trusted partners: together we stand, support, and grow resilient.

Yesterday, Russia struck the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant  — despite its protection under #IHL. Hours later, we were on the ground assessing the situation & planning how to support Ukraine's energy system ahead of winter. The EU will not back down. Our assistance will continue.

Productive meeting in Kyiv with Mrs. Vereshchuk from the Office of the President.  Preparations for winter, evacuations from frontline areas, support for veterans, and much more. The challenges are immense, but the EU stands firmly by Ukraine.

After the night spent in a shelter in Kyiv, I met families hit by the latest Russian strikes. With Acted and UNHCR Ukraine, we responded immediately — providing cash assistance, counselling, legal support, and material for emergency repairs.

Honoured to see 🇺🇦’s medical evacuation train in action and meet the incredible medics saving lives at war. Proud that the EU’s Medevac programme supports their efforts with over 4,600 wounded Ukrainians evacuated to European countries for treatment. A true sign of solidarity🤝.

👨‍🚒 Lieutenant Paisios led a team of twenty Greek rangers who answered Spain’s call for help against devastating wildfires in Asturias. They battled day and night, saving the village of Genestoso from destruction.

We are stepping up our assistance to the Afghan people in response to the recent earthquake. So far, 4 EU-funded flights have already delivered over 250 tonnes of essential supplies. The latest just landed today. More coming soon. #EUSolidarity

Great to meet United Nations USG Michaud, who is successfully steering UN Security through today’s evolving security landscape. We agreed to step up collaboration on security to better protect humanitarian workers – another strong sign of the United Nations–EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid 🇪🇺 partnership.

#UNGA80: Productive meeting with Carl Skau from our partner World Food Programme. With EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid 🇪🇺 being its second-largest donor, we discussed funding challenges, defending humanitarian space, maintaining our focus on life-saving aid and transparency, and the new United Nations supply chain initiative.

Delighted to meet @USGRyder at #UNGA80. We discussed the UN80 initiative and the actions needed to sustain a strong multilateral system. Principled humanitarian action is a global public good that saves lives and enhances resilience.

In Syria today, I visited WFP distribution centres in Rural Damascus. Food security remains a real issue in the new Syrian context. DG ECHO supports our partners in addressing the food needs of the population.

War, bombing, multiple displacements and uncertainty leave deep scars - both physical and psychological. Psychological well-being is the foundation for rebuilding one’s life. The European Union works with UNHCR Syria to provide vulnerable Syrians with psychosocial assistance.
