As you may have seen in the national press, phone use in schools can cause disruption to learning and social interaction. Our policy is that phones should not be seen or heard. Please support us in creating a focused learning environment.

The Red Sky Foundation have been with us all week teaching students about the importance of CPR and what do do when a person has a cardiac arrest. We are very proud of all the staff and students who have come forward to say they will complete the Great North Run on their behalf

Make Music Day is on June 21. To Celebrate Monkwearmouth has a "Make Music Competition". To join do one of the following: Beatboxing, Sing or Play an Instrument Music Production Body Percussion Send your recordings into Mrs Bain by Sunday 15th June and win a Music Prize!

To help celebrate World Music Day/Make Music Day on Saturday 21st June some of our talented Y10 students who are part of the band "The Erratics" have been performing to our students in the new School Hall.

Some of our Year 10 students had the opportunity to visit Newcastle University for a Futures in Music workshop. They got to take part in a range of activities including: DJ Skills / Sound Walks & Composing, Studio Production / Singing and Music Marketing / Music Events.

The winner of the ‘Make Music Day' competition is Year 7's Emily Smith who wrote an original piece for the violin. She was presented with a special gold music badge and musical jewellery box. A big well done to everyone for taking part!

Y11 parents and carers have been sent an email about results day. Thursday 21 August, 9am-10:30am in the main hall. There is a form to complete if a student is unable to collect results (this is in the email sent to parents and carers).

Sunderland Music fans, there is an amazing event coming soon that you may be interested in attending. It also has some workshops for students/parents/carers wanting to learn more about music.

This week we are welcoming our Year 5s and Year 6s into our school for an action packed few days! They will be going into lessons, meeting our famous ex pupils and getting to know their way round Monkwearmouth Academy. We can't wait to share it all with them.

Our year 8 & 9 students visited Gateshead College as part of enrichment day. They worked with a music production and DJ teacher who planned activities in the music studios and sequencing lab at the Baltic Campus. A great day was had by all.
