BREAKING: We have been working to stop AL from developing a gas execution protocol for the death penalty. We now laud Airgas, AL's nitrogen provider, for prohibiting AL from using its gas for executions. Without a pathway forward, AL must keep its moratorium in place.

97% of parole-eligible people have been denied release from Alabama's overcrowded, violent prisons this year, while the parole board's own guidelines say over 80% in this group should be paroled. What's the word for this? Diseased comes to mind.

WOW. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey can’t find money for her billion-dollar prison construction project. She took $400M from COVID relief, and now is taking $100M from school funds. Besides the construction firms making money on this deal, who is ok with this?! al.com/news/2023/03/a…

This bill is hilariously bad and shows a thorough misunderstanding of how ESG metrics are even considered. If this passes, AL won't have access to most investment capital for state projects and it will cost taxpayers millions in ensuing interest hikes.

Once upon a time, there was a prison telecom named Global Tel Link. It got bad press for exploiting incarcerated people + their families, so it changed its name to ViaPath Technologies. Unable to shake its image, private equity owner, American Securities, tried to sell it and failed. 🧵

The point of ending money bond is not to replace it with invasive and expensive electronic monitoring that only sets people up to fail. Expanding electronic monitoring does not improve public safety, it's simply enriches prison profiteers finding ways to confine us in our homes.

Incarceration is family separation, and there’s no way around it. But as we fight to end our nation’s addiction to punishment, one policy could help bring families, especially children, a little closer: free jail and prison communication. Take action at connectfamiliesnow.com.
