KNOCK OUT OF THE YEAR? What a finish from James McGivern. Is that a Queensberry contract in the bag? Or will other promoters be in touch?

COLD WATER ALERT —— Worth remembering: The department in charge of building the £7bn part of this rail project through NI - can’t build a £100m bike network through Belfast. It’s currently decades+ off schedule and most likely - most of it will never be built.

The pfg (draft) commits to road/airport expansions. It will ‘consider’ the all island rail review. It says nothing on cycling, buses or walking to persuade people out of private cars where possible. If only the NI Executive and Minister O’Dowd were as brave as Eamon Ryan.

Since 1st August 2024 Department for Infrastructure have announced £8.2m worth of road improvement scheme across NI. Eight point two million pounds worth. A fraction of that would have pedestrianised Hill St. The truth is while pedestrianisation advances everywhere else in Ireland, Belfast is

Adding another Active Travel publication/consultation/delivery plan to Department for Infrastructure bookshelf. They're a publishing house. This is their active travel strategy. They've published more metres of press releases about cycle lanes than metres of actual cycle lanes.

John O'Dowd's Stormont department is pretending that it's spending £2.6m on a cycle lane, but most of that money is funding a road for cars and lorries - and the department is refusing to say if this has been happening more widely. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/…

Don’t forget, if you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone including drivers. If you design a multi-modal city that makes walking, biking & public transit attractive options, it works better for everyone including drivers. INCLUDING DRIVERS. The “war on cars” is a lie.

From today’s Irish News - despite a capital budget of over £800m Department for Infrastructure have slashed the planned budget for Belfast cycle lanes. ❌ £16m budgeted in 2021 up to 2024/2025 - just £3.3m spent so far. ❌ 16 projects due to have been completed - just 2 completed so far.

Festive greetings from the Cathedral Quarter Metro Station—just a concept for now, but imagine a Belfast where modern, sustainable transport options connect all areas, creating a more vibrant and well-connected city. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎅🎄

Given its proximity to the Ormeau Rd, planned Glider route, Forestside and established neighbourhoods, there’s surely a strong case for Lidl to consider a genuine mixed-use scheme at Galwally, with homes above retail optimising density on a well located site?

The Ormeau was absolutely buzzing for the City Marathon yesterday. Vibrant streets, packed bars and great community spirit. Maybe next year the organisers and DfI could consider fully closing the road to traffic to help create even more of a festival atmosphere? #OpenOrmeau

Belfast Bike Network Update: –– According to Delivery Plan we’re year 4. According to DFI's figures we’re still not year 2. Only completed work is a ~100m on Hardcastle Street (due to Mark Simpson’s piece). –– infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/sites/default/…

Not thrown onto a stage..... The flag of a proscribed organisation brought into, and held aloft at Windsor Park. Will await the blanket media coverage, the House of Commons debate and the prime ministers statement....

For one week during the Fleadh, Belfast will pedestrianise the streets around City Hall. That gives us something rare - a chance to see what the city could feel like if space was designed for people, not traffic. These images show that potential 👇 If it works in August, it

If you’re wondering why your local high street is dying, have you considered the possibility that car dominance, poor public transport links, a lack of cycle lanes, and the absence of high quality street cleaning and green infrastructure are amongst the chief reasons?
