After bringing in SPs Kris Bubic and Gerrit Cole and RF Mike Ogden, 3B has been the Cubs' priority all winter. They struck out on trading for Nander De Sedas and recently made a half-hearted attempt to acquire Manuel Varela. Now Lewis arrives on the verge of Spring Training.

Mark Appel, Kris Bubic, and Gerrit Cole are locks for the Opening Day rotation. The final two spots will come down to a sextet of arms: Josh Garrett, JJ Goss, Bryce McEwen, Spencer Jones, plus minor leaguers Gunnar Gray and Aaron Nixon.

The Cubs have added INF Cameron Cannon to the Spring Training roster for some extra coverage at 3B.

Pitchers TJ Nichols, Brock Porter, and Triston Casas have been reassigned to minor league camp. Nick Bitsko, Pete Williams, and Spencer Jones will take another turn in the rotation.

The Cubs' Spring roster stands at thirty-seven: 18 pitchers and 19 batters. GM Jabs said the plan this weekend is to cut that down to twenty-eight (14 bats and 14 arms) this weekend for the final batch of games.

The Cubs made a few more Spring cuts this weekend, including Elijah Green, Zachary Evans, Termarr Johnson, Cameron Cannon, Jackson Baumeister, Harrison Bailey, Joey Yellen.

The Chicago Cubs have made their final Spring pitching cuts, sending SP Gunnar Gray and Bryce McEwen back to AAA for more seasoning. McEwen made 14 starts in the majors last year to the tune of a 5.07 ERA, while Gray has yet to make his MLB debut.

3B Cooper Kinney has been demoted to AAA Iowa. DH Steven Stricker has been informed he's made the Opening Day roster. The final slot is between Brennan Davis and Peyton Stovall.

The Seattle Mariners have claimed OF Zachary Evans.
