Four of us from MKAS headed to a dark site and were greeted by the Plough, Jupiter and Orion. We’d barely sat down when three meteors flashed by. Over 90 minutes we saw ~20, from faint flickers to bright streaks. One was slow and red, another even crossed a telescope’s view

At Friday’s meeting, Pierre shared news of the newly discovered sun grazing comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS) a Kreutz comet which will soon pass close to the Sun, and outlined several possible outcomes . As always with comets, we will watch and wait. If it survives, we'll see it in April.

On Friday evening, MKAS member Theresa also gave a talk on where the chemical elements around us come from. It was a thought-provoking journey from the birth of the Universe to the gold in our jewellery. facebook.com/MKastronomical mkas.org.uk
