Republican federal judges have stalled six major Biden initiatives in two months. GOP politicians don't have to advance the party's very unpopular views. Instead, they can rely on the party's super-partisan judges who never have to stand before voters. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/…

This is a great program! DC is spending just $225,000 to wipe out $42 million in medical debt for more than 62,000 residents. DC residents, here's what the notification letter will look like. Keep an eye on your mailboxes ⚕️👀

It's wild how, in the 1990s, the entire rest of the developed world said, "Jeez, we really need to get a handle on all these traffic deaths," and the US just said, "You all go on without me." Hundreds of thousands of needless American deaths as a result.

In 2017 Trump celebrated the House GOP bill repealing the ACA's guarantee of "essential health benefits" including maternity coverage. The CBO said that provision would likely cause women in some states to lose maternity coverage outright or else have to pay ~$1,000-a-month:

I really enjoyed Jill Filipovic’s thoughts about the overwhelming sense of dread and disgust that so many of us feel toward Trump and his ilk as the election draws nearer—and how we can (should! must!) avoid letting it ruin our lives. slate.com/advice/2024/09…

On average, every day for the past 9 months, DC's bus lane/stop enforcement cameras have caught 540+ instances of driver violations. Each represents someone w/ stroller or wheelchair who had difficulty getting on the bus, or four dozen workers stuck behind one selfish driver.

EXCLUSIVE: Ginni Thomas privately cheered on a major religious-rights group for fighting efforts to reform the Supreme Court. Plus: A conservative leader attacked Justice Kagan as "treasonous" for backing an enforceable SCOTUS ethics code. Read/listen: propublica.org/article/ginni-…

NEW: Ginni Thomas, wife of SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas, emailed a well-known group opposing court-reform proposals. Thomas wrote in all caps: “YOU GUYS HAVE FILLED THE SAILS OF MANY JUDGES. CAN I JUST TELL YOU, THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH.” propublica.org/article/ginni-…

There’s no small irony in this coming out within a week of UVA suspending campus tours because they discussed the fact that Jefferson was an enslaver.

Had DC chosen to participate in Direct File next Spring for the 2024 tax filing season, District residents would have collectively saved in the *millions of dollars* that would’ve otherwise gone to tax preparation services! Just a huge missed opportunity…

Makes sense drivers don’t want to pay a $100 fine. Why not interview a few bus riders to see if they wanted the bus to move faster? Shouldn’t be too hard - there are more than 300,000 daily boardings on Metrobuses.
