Disappointing response from Rachel Reeves to Jemima Burnage on implications of NI rise for not for profit social care providers. The allocation to (adults & children’s) social care won’t cover this given additional needs & costs. Hope need for mitigation is heard

The HM Treasury must amend the Budget to exempt charities providing social care commissioned by councils from the NI rise. Councils can't absorb these costs, meaning VCS providers having to. Some will hand back contracts or face large deficits. People will be left without support

We're returning to our work on children's social care 👥 “We’re picking up the baton. This new cross-party Committee will review valuable evidence already provided to us, listen to new evidence and scrutinise the Govt’s proposals.” Chair, Helen Hayes 💙🌹 committees.parliament.uk/committee/203/…

Interesting suggestion on the plans for the Casey Social Care Review that it's 'red tape' that's the problem for joint funding/commissioning of social care, not just lack of cash and squabbling over who pays which bill... gov.uk/government/new…

"We are facing a massive disruption in April, because no one can afford the 10% increase in costs which comes from the rise in the national living wage and NI contributions. Although the average margin in home care is 7.6%, many don’t make anywhere near that much." - Our Chief

The appeal brought by Hannah Summers and I challenging the anonymisation of judges in the historic Sara Sharif family court hearing has been allowed on all three grounds. Huge thanks to our barrister Chris Barnes, Tortoise and Law for Change Our statement here

Today, the family court reporting pilot begins its full roll out across England & Wales. It switches the legal presumption against reporting to a situation where, subject to strict anonymity rules, journalists can report what they see & what's in documents, and interview parties.

Local government budgets will be hit by cuts to #PIP This is because PIP can be taken into account by councils when calculating the financial contribution someone who they provide #socialcare to must make - and less PIP means lower financial contributions #DisabilityBenefits

“It pretty much says in here that we expect annual increases in council tax of 5% a year over the coming years in order to fund that spending power within local government.” Paul Johnson on the announcements on local government funding in today’s #SpendingReview.
