Yes kids are losing in-school time. But if this ruler represents grades 1 through 12, they’re only losing 1/4 of an inch. During this time let kids dig into “important other things.” Such as grit, creativity, ingenuity, gratitude & empathy. Having strong shoulders for others/self

A final reminder: This curve may not flatten – and may go up again – if we don’t adhere to the stay at home order. We must stay the course for our efforts to remain effective. So many people have committed to being #AllInIllinois – and we need every single resident to join us.

I think I am more exhausted working from home because I draw energy from being around my students and my colleagues. Zooming everyday is a good substitute, but the spirit of spontaneous energy in the physical school environment is something I love.

It was me. 🙋🏼‍♀️I proudly curated the books for the Canvas read alouds. Diversifying our classroom libraries matters! Books have the power to deconstruct biases, build empathy & provide #mirrorsandwindows TY RSD Diversity&Equity & #RonMcNair for showing me how to #saysomething

It is extremely important for educators to work on their mental & physical health right now. Whether school is in person or virtual, we are dealing with stress that we have never encountered. Take time for yourself daily/weekly - read, walk, rest, spend time with loved ones.

Rockwood is committed to diverse classroom libraries and ensuring our students feel represented in the books shared. Pond Principal Dr. Carlos Diaz-Granados led a virtual read aloud of one of those books, "Ron's Big Mission," last week. Learn more: bit.ly/2ZHdPZM.

Why spend time creating, & teaching into the habits of successful partnerships? This structure: -facilitates relationships -creates a space for student driven learning -taps into ALL of the teachers in the room -builds a true learning community #LiteracyTipTuesday #RSDLearns

I’m baaaack! New year, new position. Time to reintroduce myself! I’m a 5th grade teacher from STL. After taking a year off to sub, I’m about to begin year 8️⃣ of teaching and I couldn’t be more excited!

A middle school in my district needed 18 classes covered by subs today. This is in a state that has made it so that anyone with a high school diploma can sub and in a district that has nearly doubled the sub pay. If teaching is ‘so easy’, why has the shortage only become worse?

teachers have been saying for 3 years now how overworked & disrespected they feel AND have been offering plenty of thoughtful, reasonable solutions that no one cares to listen to spare me the “why are teachers leaving the profession in droves” thinkpieces at this time

Just because teachers are salaried employees does not obligate us to spend nights, weekends & vacations engaged in prep work for the teaching The Dept. of Ed could never afford to pay us an hourly rate considering what we do. They got a great deal giving us a 10-month salary

Heartbreaking & terrifying every time, but hit harder than usual. This school is 4mi away from mine. When will lawmakers decide that enough is enough? Should’ve been after Columbine. I’ll be praying for victims & families, but I’ll find a way to do something. We need action.
