Medievalists take no holidays, but are more likely to be observed in warmer weather. One of the most awe-inspiring interiors, made more stunning with the medieval artefacts and holy relics, including: the Holy Grail, St Vincent's hand and a burial site.

The step classes have finally come in useful for our trip to Ludlow Castle. A striking demonstration of Norman power and authority, alongside being a Mortimer stronghold in the later period

Key word definition grids are one of my favourite activities from Literacy Network #literacytuesday discussions. These are Year 9 students recalling key words and applying them in context as a retrieval starter activity πŸ‘

Such a great way of dealing with misconceptions surrounding historical fiction and the Holocaust. Part of our job as historians is to educate about the dangers of using such material to teach about the Holocaust, encouraging students to question the accuracy of such sources.

Excellent day, taking ideas and inspiration from some of the best brains in History teaching and education. Some brilliant alternative approaches to traditional teaching, and I'm looking forward to incorporating story-telling to reveal complexity and a wider narrative. #SHP22

Tomorrow we recall the 200,000+ Roma & Sinti lost during the Nazi period. 'The persistence of prejudice against the Roma community today is a stark reminder that hatreds can endure... to redress this requires social, cultural & political will to reflect, remember, & educate.’ RT

After reading The Diary of Anne Frank, I finally had the opportunity to visit the annex where the Frank family lived in hiding for two years. It was a poignant and moving experience, and a further reminder of the importance of using real stories in Holocaust education.

This incredible drinking cup dating from the mid 1st century AD was discovered by a metal detectorist at Crownthorpe in 1982. It's Roman in form but the ducks are Celtic in style: a fusion of two separate art traditions! πŸ¦†πŸ¦†

Alfred the Great died #OnThisDay 899. The story of how he became king of Wessex in the first place is quite complicated, so I made a short explanatory video.

At Auschwitz we see the end of the process, but the Holocaust did not start from gas chambers & murder. The hatred developed from marking a victim who could not escape its fate, from ideology & words, through legal exclusion, violence & dehumanization. Auschwitz took time.

With #ValentinesDay almost upon us, this clip from our archive caught our eye: a charming throwback to when we were the city's hottest dating spot. It seems only fitting that you can even tie the knot here these days! Do you have fond memories of canoodling at the Castle? πŸ’•

How did we get here? When society is taught that the only things of value are things that make money, and the only people of value are people who make money, it becomes impossible to see the worth in the study of what it means to be human. edp24.co.uk/news/23600418.…
