I LOVE this mindset shift from britt hawthorne (they/she) - I am a recovering praise manipulator and this graphic gives me so much to sit in and consider when empowering our students to make independent decisions and not constantly be controlled by a teacher.

Good afternoon, friends. Why is it that we respond to children who are upset with more yelling? Would that ever make a child, or a person of any age, have a positive mood change? How do we work towards retraining our own teacher brains to respond with gentleness?

Good morning. Disabled actors for disabled roles. Trans actors for trans roles. Queer actors for queer roles. Actors of color for roles of color. And then just ya know... keep hiring them for more roles! 🙏

I stand with the #LAUSDteachersstrike! I've been in two strikes with the Chicago Teachers Union - I will never forget how much my feet hurt, or how much tea I drank to *try* to get my voice back. I was chanting in my sleep. Stay strong - solidarity!

Oh, my heart. She has left us such a legacy with her beautiful talent & words. One of my favorites from 'Heavy': "but how you carry it - books, bricks, grief - it’s all in the way you embrace it, balance it, carry it." Rest well, #MaryOliver.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m hearing more and more of these poorly thought-through practices that claim to be ‘trauma-informed’. We must continue teaching about the complexities of theses issues. And honor each individual as unique.
