The fact that disabled people need things does not make us a burden. It makes us human.

Driver to me a wheelchair user: “Get off the street or you’re going to get killed.” Me: “There are no sidewalks. I have to be out here.” Driver: “Stay at home. Get someone to go for you.” Disabled people aren’t going to stay at home because of inaccessibility. Build sidewalks!

One X-Ray technician to another technician about me, a wheelchair user: “He’s a frequent flier down here. Unfortunately, we have to lift him.” Me: “You wouldn’t have to lift me if you had an accessible exam table.”

(Car blocking bus stop). Bus driver to me a wheelchair user: “Hang on. I’ll help you.” (Driver comes off bus, helps me off curb onto bus) Me: “Thanks so much.” Driver: “No problem. My job is not just driving a bus. It’s to make sure you get on safely.” Nicely done, bus driver.

Stranger to me, a wheelchair user: “Where are you going?” Me:”Going out . Why?” Stranger: “By yourself? Don’t you have someone to help you?” Me: “I’m good.” Stranger: “Be careful.” Some disabled people have helpers. Some don’t. Assuming a disabled person needs help is ableist.

Me, a wheelchair user, to man in car blocking curb ramp: “Can you please move your car? You’re blocking the ramp.” Man: “In a little while.” Me: “I need you to do it now.” Man: “Can you calm down? I’m almost ready.” Almost ready? Disabled people are “ready” for access now.

Access for disabled people should not be subjected to a cost-benefit analysis.

Ohio legislators woke up this morning after a hard night working to take away healthcare and sports from children. They must be so proud. <sarcasm>

Looks to me like Sarah’s about got the prisons as messed up as she intended. Country boys trying to run prisons by the constitution can’t begin to hang with that woman on cynical self-serving politics.

Sports events organizers (inc. parents and coaches) STOP putting trash cans, concession stands, or anything else in the 1-2 places in entire gyms I can sit. I remember thinking it was so cool bleachers finally had cutouts-only for ppl to block them.

Disabled researchers aren't just underrepresented. We're also overexcluded. There's a difference.
