Sad news on Facebook that Major Tonie Holt has passed away. Him and his wife Valmai authored so many books that have helped us understand the battlefields of the Great War, and they were part of those pioneers who brought visitors back to those battlefields from the 1970s.

43 years ago, eight brave crew members RNLI Penlee Lifeboat launched in treacherous conditions to aid the Union Star. Tragically, 16 people lost their lives that night. This is the crew's story told by their children. It's also a tale of hope and community resilience. #RNLI #OTD

On the 80th anniversary of #VEDay, we’re remembering the part our heroic crew played in the #SecondWorldWar. Saving 6,376 lives during 3,760 lifeboat launches, many of the crew were recognised for their bravery. 204 RNLI gallantry medals were awarded for their wartime efforts 🏅

To commemorate 85 years since the #Dunkirk evacuation, over 70 Little Ships are recreating the journey to Dunkirk, including one of our own! Hosted by Dunkirk Little Ships, they set sail from #Ramsgate at 6am today and they'll be retracing a route that many of the boats took in 1940.
