Looking forward to visiting Mary Hare School today and seeing the great support they provide to deaf children and young people
Does anyone know? Does NHS England define "high priority elective" care?
Real interesting research into teacher recruitment and retention. Thinking about the implication for Teachers of the Deaf, whose numbers have fallen 19% since 2011. Could a bursary or training fund - as National Deaf Children's Society has promoted - help redress the attainment gap for deaf children?
Thanks to Miles Briggs MSP, Daniel Johnson MSP pressing for support for deaf children appallingly failed by NHS Lothian. Humza Yousaf strong, as ever, but where is Scot Gov Health response to the Independent Review recommendations? And what is ScotGov Education doing? scottishparliament.tv/meeting/meetin…
Pleased to be part of the Department for Education Expert Advisory Group on Early Years SEND this morning. Important to be able to raise National Deaf Children's Society's evidence on how the SEND system does (or doesn't) give #deaf children the very best start in life.
Two years after the NHS Lothian scandal, systematically failing to identify (and hence support) deaf children, 8 months after the presentation of the independent review report, Scot Gov Health accepts all the recommendations. Hurray! parliament.scot/chamber-and-co…
Hugely proud of National Deaf Children's Society Scotland, National Deaf Children's Society colleagues whose campaigning and policy work have achieved a critical milestone in getting deaf children across Scotland the right support from the start.
Thanks to David Johnston OBE of Department for Education for the Christmas card and kind words. The National Deaf Children's Society will continue to work hard to ensure that deaf children get the right support, right from the start.
Thrilled that the long campaigned for #BSLGCSE is now officially coming! Huge tribute to d/Deaf campaigners, families and my wonderful National Deaf Children's Society colleagues. A major step forwards for the inclusion of deaf children and young people. gov.uk/government/new…
A big thank you to Robin Walker MP Robin Walker for highlighting the need for more Teachers of the Deaf in today's debate on SEND Provision and Funding. #deaf #SENDInTheSpecialist #DeafChildren #SENDReview
Kudos to London Fire Brigade and RSPCA (England & Wales) for rescuing a pigeon trapped in netting outside Old Street today. A moving sight. And thanks to National Deaf Children's Society colleagues for alerting the RSPCA.
It's been a pleasure and a privilege to lead the policy and campaigning work of National Deaf Children's Society and to fight for the rights of #deaf babies and children. We've achieved a lot - and I hope that audiology and education services will be better for my team's work and commitment. Thank you
Great to work with the British Deaf Association team, helping them deliver this brilliant launch for their #BSLinourHands campaign for early years support for deaf children.
Pleased to spend today in Cardiff, working with British Deaf Association to influence Welsh Government response to Mark Isherwood MS's important BSL Bill.
