Did you know? (Cranefly Edition) Many Irish craneflies can be identified from their wing pattern alone, making them a great family of flies to start recording. Sounds interesting? Join us in two weeks for our Cranefly Intro Workshop with Ryan Mitchell bit.ly/cranefly-intro

I've had a hectic few months with life and other non-microWild invert endeavours, but I'll be back in full flow soon enough. In the meantime, here's a beautiful male Oligolophus tridens harvestman from microWild. Sweep low herbage if you want to find these guys! #NotASpider

I turned over a plank of wood in the microWild meadow today, and what a thrill!!! Not one, but two separate pseudoscorpions. If you know pseudoscorpions, you know how rare it is to come across them. Pseudoscorpions are our stunning and cute, non-venomous arachnid friends!

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of Ryan Mitchell's company in microWild as he taught us all about Craneflies. It was a little windy, but we still found plenty of species on the estate, including a Phantom Cranefly. An excellent course and a great day!

We shot this piece on a cold, VERY windy day sitting IN the meadow. I was shivering towards the end. I'm surprised we got any audio - but it worked out okay. Jack is a lovely guy who is committed to learning all about Irish nature to guide and aid him in his rewilding efforts.

There are lots of juvenile Rilaena triangularis out and about in microWild at the moment. A lovely species with very distinctive eyes. It takes some time for them to grow into their eyes...

A regular question I get asked is, "What should I be doing in my garden to support bees, wasps, insects?" Instead of making things up, I've simply asked someone more knowledgeable than me to take on that task. Join us in April 2025 for a great day out. gardening-for-wildlife.eventbrite.ie

Collie Ennis 🕷🐸 (@collieennis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This wildlife pond in the wonderful microWild was starting to get smothered by grass, risking it becoming completely overgrown and potentially risking the local population of native smooth newts that breed there. We popped down today to give it a bit of a haircut. 🐸🐸🐸
