The first batch of leaf mines from today's very productive walk at RSPB Newport. 1 nfy and 2 lifers in these 4 pictures. Please see the alt text for details. Even living within a leaf is not guaranteed protection. A recent coptotriche marginea was parasitised. #mothsmatter

Last one, I promise!! Firstly, I think the plant is buckthorn. Originally, I thought it was Phytomyza agromyzina on site, but I'm not sure now..(in other words, I don't!) Thanks again!! Rob Edmunds Andy Banthorpe NARS Rspb Newport wetlands #mothsmatter #agromyzina

Hi Rob, spotted this on the squirrel planted Hazel in the garden, and reckon it's Stigmella microtheriella, as I don't think the egg was laid in the axil, as S. Floslactella does, and the initial frass doesn't fill the mine. S Monmouthshire, today. #mothsmatter #teammoth

Some belly scratching with two pigs recently made me wonder about adding pigs to our woods. Do pigs help Wild Daffodils and Bluebells or damage them by eating the bulbs? Our woods are excellent for Bluebells and Wild Daffodils but are disappearing under Bramble. Advice please!

Nothing too exciting yet in my traps of last night (2 copper u/wings to check), but I am a big fam of the L-Album Wainscot. A couple of micros to try and identify too, if they ever stay still.. Season high of 6 box tree moths. S Monmouthshire #mothsmatter #teammoth

Well, this is a very nice garden addition, the maple leaf miner, Phyllonorycter acerifoliella, but I wish it would cooperate a tad more (this individual is loose in the kitchen). The only pic I managed before a mothy bolt for freedom.. S Monmouthshire #mothsmatter #teammoth

Hi Barry. Found this mine today in work whilst supposed to be working, so I didn't have a lot of time to examine it closer than these 2 pics. The closest I can see on the leaf mines website is Phytomyza marginella?? Please see the alt text Thanks for looking!! #Agromyzidae

I've not got time or daylight enough to sort out my moth trap until this afternoon, work gets in the way of life! But I had this lovely buff ermine caterpillar on the sheet. It's great to see the garden working! S Monmouthshire #mothsmatter #teammoth

An easy spot at this time of year / Stigmella plagicolella on Prunus species such as Blackthorn. From today - some call them ‘tadpoles’ - you can see why

It's been a long wait, but worth it in the end. Black-banded (Polymixis xanthomista) emerged this week from caterpillars found on Thrift in Fishguard, Pembrokeshire back in May. Green when found, but brown in their final instar. #MothsMatter

Waiting to be seriously gripped by Convolvulous moth pics today, my pathetic effort resulted in 56 of 17, with nothing interesting at all. Here is a pic of a light emerald, cuz at least it's green... S Monmouthshire #mothsmatter #teammoth

Wow! Went to St Fagans museum today(lots of leafmines), but it's the 1st time I've seen the damage that a box tree moth can do! Dead hedging all round the gardens, but found 2 caterpillars, which were very cute! Glamorgan #mothsmatter #teammoth
