One of the nice things about this place circling the drain is now it takes only about 30 seconds of scrolling before you close the app.

If I ran CBS News, I'd look to last time CBS Evening News passed either ABC or NBC for 2nd place in the ratings and try to replicate that. It last occured right after Dan Rather left and before Katie Couric got a huge celebrity contract (2005-6). The anchor was Bob Schieffer.

There's a new AI website called Formatmypaper.com promising to properly format citations for academic papers. It might be useful (?) but I won't upload my original research randomly to AI websites I know nothing about. Latest in the Lint Trap⬇️ linttrapofhistory.substack.com/p/brief-though…

"Overall, we found the AI-generated lesson plans to be decidedly boring, traditional and uninspiring." Fascinating study: Researchers used 3 different AI apps to design +300 8th grade civics lesson plans. Result: They were crappy. theconversation.com/ai-generated-l…

If these The New York Times numbers are correct, I find it amazing that Disney didn't know how popular Kimmel was [2.8 million more cancellations than an average month]. The number of cancellations was far higher than number of viewers on TV. More proof we're not in TV world anymore.

Tonight Washington Commanders are starting Bobby Wagner [7th greatest inside linebacker in NFL history according to Pro Football Reference's HOF monitor] & Von Miller (8th greatest outside LB in NFL history) in same game. Only comparable is '70s Steelers (Lambert #3 & Ham #3)

When CBS settled with Trump last summer, John Dickerson offered a very candid and tough commentary asking the CBS News audience to watch the programs and decide for themselves if CBS is betraying their trust. Yesterday he announced he's leaving CBS News. I guess we know now.

"You cannot be surprised at the NBA scandal." Good piece in The Conversation U.S. - about an interesting reversal: gambling used to be a part of the sports industy, but now sports is a part of the gambling industry. theconversation.com/how-the-explos…

"Tom Wolfe couldn’t even get published today...Who would publish his attack on William Shawn and the New Yorker? How about the Flak Catchers? No way. Maybe 'Frank Sinatra Has a Cold' wouldn’t be published either. Too long!" - 93-year-old legend Gay Talese metropolitanreview.org/p/the-last-lit…

Stole this from Sarah Weinman on Bl** Sk* who got it from the Breaker newsletter: Bari Weiss proposed CBS News interview Dan Brown [Da Vinci Code] about the Louvre heist. If that's indicative of the new leadership, things really aren't going well at CBS News these days.

I understand why it might be a good idea to have a best-selling novelist write for your text-based publication on the Louvre heist, but this shows how little Bari Weiss knows about TV. It's a visual medium. Something like a very cool animated graphic works better. Ailes knew that

The University of Pennsylvania Grad School of Education receives a $1 million grant from Google to train teachers in PA, DE, + NJ in using AI more in the classroom. That's a very cheap bribe for an Ivy League school, and it's ultimately self-destructive. inquirer.com/education/ai-e…

Complacency is the place where MAGA + the Democratic Party mirror each other. Both pretend to not know (or wilfully ignore) just how unpopular they are. Massive opportunity for politician who rejects both [but the huge obstacle is no institutional support or party structure].

The so-called "ceasefire" celebrated on "60 Minutes" with the Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff interview apparently didn't actually result in the cessation of any firing. I wonder how CBS News will revisit this issue now that the story's changed.

"If the period from the 1880s into the early twentieth century was a golden age of reading, it was one by default: there was no other mass form of entertainment." I stopped reading at that point because this is so wrong: vaudeville, circuses, Chautauqua, sports events, etc.
