One of my main motivations for founding Our World in Data was to overcome the mad reality in academia that much of the most important research and data is locked away behind paywalls.

I wanted research and data to be a public good, accessible to *everyone*.

Can blue light be converted to red without loss of energy? Lots of potential applications - e.g. more efficient solar cells.
This paper describes how to overcome one key barrier to achieving this. Needs both photophysics & soft matter expertise Victor Gray Daniel Toolan Mike Weir

Myself and Mike Weir started writing our parts to this manuscript during some neutron time at the ILL in Grenoble in 2019. It's been quite the journey, but a really nice paper linking structure <> function for our quantum dot : organic semiconductor films!

Our latest experiments were a lot of fun to do! We hole punch inexpensive piezos and suspend membranes across the holes. Piezos drive the membranes and a microphone is used to measure their vibrational spectrum. Peaks tell us about film tension/properties. link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/Ph…
