Birmingham is almost three times the size of Lille. But Lille is winning comprehensively when it comes to rail transport. Why? Because English cities have to go to Westminster for money and permission to build. We need to give mayors the power to build 👇

This review was clear: Britain's regulatory system left us the most expensive place to build nuclear. Gov's vow to implement its recommendations in full is a huge win for common sense. We look forward to a full implementation plan, particularly the Habitats Regulations reforms.

Nuclear power is essential for energy independence and achieving net zero. The decision from government could not be more timely in these turbulent times.   And the benefits for working people are huge: good union jobs and more secure, affordable energy 👏

BIG nuclear news: today the Government has released its plans to implement John Fingleton’s landmark nuclear review. The headline: ‘Building our Nuclear Nation’ is very good news for British nuclear, implementing almost all of the transformational recommendations, but not quite

Football league attendances double what they were in the 1980s, even at far higher prices. Football was cheaper and less popular then because it was a worse experience in almost every single way.

NEW: Britain is the most expensive country in the world to build a nuclear power plant. The Fingleton Review challenged the Government to deliver a radical programme of planning and regulatory reform to make it cheaper and quicker to build nuclear power plants. The Government

Britain has, with the best of intentions, judicialised its own government into paralysis, hollowed out its departments, and outsourced delivery to 600+ arm's-length bodies that can't make trade-offs. New piece on why civil service reform needs to go further. Read in replies

This would be unwise from multiple angles. If you're an aid-sceptic then is it really a good idea to get rid of the org that told the government that training police officers in Afghanistan and asylum hotels represented bad value-for-money. If you think aid is really important,

Every government department wastes hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayer money on a regular basis. The only one that ever admitted it and then stopped wasteful programmes was the Department for International Development. It was abolished.

Solid analysis that shows that while the climate benefits have been exaggerated using North Sea gas is 15% cleaner than using imported liquefied gas. Seems an obvious win win for the climate and the taxpayer to extract as much gas as we can.

There is something deep in the human psyche that really hates people who move from one place to another. Impeccable woke credentials, pro refugee activist but when there is a socially acceptable opportunity to lie about immigrants, seizes it and gets thousands of likes.

NEW: How our planning system makes the weekly shop more expensive. We all know that more competition means lower prices, yet our planning system is allowing big supermarkets to block Aldi and Lidl from opening new stores. - Between 2020 and 2022, Aldi’s rivals submitted 77

What would happen when the Green's economic plans immediately explode if they took power? Far left economic thought is dead, 'siege economy' not going to happen. Doing a Mitterrand and changing your whole ideology seems unlikely. Suspect it would be just blind panic.
