NEW PAPER ALERT! First PhD paper from our student @theclickitclick on #bat #biosonar & #noise out today in Journal of Experimental Biology! 🦇 Great team: Michael Pedersen @KBeedholm Astrid Særmark Uebel @jam_machund Laura Stidsholt, Signe Brinkløv & Peter T. Madsen Read here: journals.biologists.com/jeb/article/22…
Normalize describing all methods in a paper, even if they were done "as described in [16]." Because [16] did it "as described by [9]", and [9] cites an abstract from the 70s that is unavailable. 🤦‍♂️ Academic Chatter™
Just read a really cool paper from the Bioacoustics AU group (Michael Pedersen @KBeedholm Astrid Særmark Uebel @jam_machund Laura Stidsholt, Signe Brinkløv & Peter T. Madsen) showing that bats mitigate jamming by Lombard response rather than spectral shifts 1/ journals.biologists.com/jeb/article/22…
Had a great time at the #SensoryEcology course in #UniversityLund , Sweden. The course organized by #EricWarrant #MarieDacke and #Christerlöfstedt was a delight to attend. Got the opportunity to meet the pioneers of Sensory Biology. Lund Vision Group.
Check out the results of the PhD project I worked on during the 2021 and 2022 field season published in Current Biology showing that #echolocating #bats operate with vocal-motor time constants an order of magnitude faster than other mammals and birds (Photo: Kaloyana Kosseff) :)
In his ECRSpotlight, Michael Pedersen tells how the great starling migrations in Denmark sparked his curiosity for the natural world, how bats deal with the echoes they aren’t interested in when using their sonar & how he'd love to run a marathon someday journals.biologists.com/jeb/article/22…
