Did you know that men in the media are less likely to be portrayed in a positive manner? Men are statistically more likely to be shown in a negative manner than in a positive manner, as shown in the infographic below:

Remember that we’re a product of our environment, and when men (fathers in this case) are portrayed as incompetent fools who can’t do anything right, that flawed perception can trickle into other aspects of life that affects a father’s role in their child’s life.

Compared to less involved fathers, highly involved fathers can: -increased cognitive/social competence -reduce inclination to gender stereotype -increased empathy -create better psychologically adjusted children

I made this thread to highlight the importance of fatherhood. A family is the basis of society, and if the children of our society miss an integral part, we will see it’s effects further down the line. So what are actionable steps you can take to help promote positive fatherhood?

-start discussions with parents on fatherhood -be mindful of the media’s portrayal of fathers and how these ideas affect our perception of fatherhood -encourage positive portrayal of fathers in the media (word of mouth)

-actively involve fathers in all possible stages of parenting as much as possible -provide fathers with educational information on their significance and how they can get more involved

Why are men leaving marriage and going #MGTOW? Because of things like this. Divorced dads are treated like shit. He WANTS to get involved and still gets kicked to the curb. I can say with confidence that I’m gladly walking away from marriage-the risk is NOT worth it my friends.
