The Deputy Minister and DG Abdirashid M. Abdi of Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of GMS had a productive meeting with Mr. Ezana G. Kassa Head of Programme of FAO Somalia and delegates from WFP Somalia.The meeting was focusing the upcoming projects and the ongoing interventions in Galmudug fishery sector.

Minister Garad Qowqabo and DG Abdirashid M. Abdi had a Productive meeting with UNODC Head of Country Office Mr. Mostafa Elbanna and discuss about the Galmudug Fisheries Governance, Enforcement and Prosecution. Galmudug fisheries are facing a huge challenges with the IUU fishing.

20 Female from Hobyo Fishing cooperatives have been trained by Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of GMS. The training was focusing on fish processing, drying and packaging skills. The training was a part of the RAAISE Project which is Funded by EU under ILED Project through FAO.

Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of GMS held three days of fish consumption campaign in Dhusamareb. DG Abdirashid M. Abdi opened the campaign events. Galgadud Secondary school students, Dhusamareb women association and Fish vendors attended the event.

Minister Garad Qowqabo and DG Abdirashid M. Abdi attended Joint Planning Workshop of FGS/FMS Ministries of Fisheries and FAO. During the workshop the Ministries were presented a 3 year plan for the fishery sector.

Minister Garad Qowqabo and DG Abdirashid M. Abdi attended the first meeting of the Fisheries Management and Development Council. The council had a discussion about the Somali Sustainable Fisheries Development Project (SSFDP) with the World Bank.

Minister Garad Qowqabo and DG Abdirashid M. Abdi are attending Somali Blue economy and Investment conference which is organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.

Minister Garad Qowqabo and DG Abdirashid M. Abdi Attended high-level stakeholders meeting on Somali fisheries protection, enforcement and prosecution with UN Office on Drugs & Crime. The FMS and FGS Ministries of Fisheries, Somali Maritime Police, UNSOM and UNODC had a discussion about the IUU fishing.

Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of GMS fosters collaboration in a successful stakeholder meeting today with State Government agencies, NGOs and the Private sector, addressing challenges and showcasing achievements of the RAAISE project funded by the EU through FAO Somalia.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of GMS successfully held a 10day training of co-operatives in Galmudug under the Somalia crisis respond project (SCRP).The training was conducted in Hobyo district and the sessions were on organizational development and technical aspects of fisheries.

Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of GMS kicked off Somalia Fisheries Week in Dhusamareb. The event was attended by Ministers, MPs, fishing companies and local communities.
