We deployed more than 22,000 baited remote underwater video systems ( BRUVS) at 391 reefs in 67 nations and territories to investigate how human pressures affect sharks and rays. We estimate the depletion of shark and ray populations and investigated how assemblages changed.

The results showed that the main shark species that live on coral reefs have declined globally by 60-70%, making them eligible for listing as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. But the level of depletion varied greatly between nations. IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group
