What do you think has happened? Year 3 and 4 investigated a scene yesterday morning to get clues about what their next writing unit will be about. The children then discussed possibly dangers, plots and vocabulary. We cannot wait to see their final pieces in a few weeks.

Otter Class (Year 3) have the theme of Roald Dahl this week due to his birthday was on the 13th September. It was so hard to only pick 3 books out of his whole amazing library.

Year 3 started their investigation of light by hiding objects under a box. Step by step they added holes but still could not see the objects. Finally they added a torch and evaluated that we need light to see and that it travels in straight lines. Well done Otter Class!

The Royal court dressed in their finery! Lord and Lady Burgh had the pleasure of King Henry VIII’s company, which called for a special banquet. Year 3 re-enacted a traditional Tudor feast at the Old Hall yesterday.

William was the perfect choice for the court jester and ever quickly learnt that juggling is harder than it looks. He did not make the king smile with his jokes but Henry finally laughed when William busted some moves.

Our afternoon was filled with a self led tour where the children got to go into every room, look at decor, costumes, toys, more facts and architecture. Otter Class learnt so much at Gainsboro' Old Hall

Otter class adopted a rhino this year and because it was world rhino day this past Sunday, it is the reading theme this week. On Monday they explored different fact files, yesterday they looked at poems and even created a collaborative shape poem- just WOW Year 3.

A great set up for this afternoon’s MacMillan coffee afternoon. Lots of donations and even a quick little prize task all organised by the school council. A massive thank you to staff and Friends of Mercer’s Wood for volunteering their time to a worthy cause.

The final money has been counted. We have raised £74.97 in total towards a fantastic cause. Thank you again to those who donate their cakes, money and time. And well done to our prize winner Elliot who got a free drink and doughnut for guessing how many cups of coffee.

Year 3 investigated mirrors in today’s science lesson. There were multiple activities to learn how reflection works. One- a mirror maze- can you draw only using the reflection? Two- can you write upside down and then be able to read it in a mirror? Year 3 can!

Activity 3- tape together two mirrors and see if you can make more than one reflection. The pencil kept multiplying! And finally, the children investigated a group of silver/grey objects to see which materials were best for reflection. Some funny results in the curved ones.
