Portugal shut down their last remaining coal fired power plant and is fostering a renewable energy revolution. They could be completely renewable by 2040 if not sooner. It can be done. We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy #renewables #go100re

🗣️ "Trump tried to bring back coal in his first term, but coal use kept falling," Ember's Dave Jones reminds us. "Since then, solar, wind and gas have become cheaper - so that the economics of new coal mines or new coal plants just do not stack up."

This solar energy farm in Kosovo doesn't just produce energy it also feeds the local animals. Every week sheep and goats are brought in and graze to their heart's content. We have so many solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #climate

In 1985, Carl Sagan told Congress that continuing to burn fossil fuels will increase global temperature, cause climate change, melt glaciers and ice sheets, and cause sea level rise. Imagine if we had listened to him them. No time to wait. #ActOnClimate #climate

Economist: The solar+battery model is working. California gets 75% of its power from solar midday. Batteries now kick in for 30% at night. Battery capacity jumped 32x since 2018.

A HISTORIC MILESTONE: For the first time, solar power generated more electricity globally than nuclear, making it the world’s 4th largest power source. In just 5 years, solar output nearly tripled—from 79 TWh (Apr 2020) to 233 TWh (Apr 2025). The energy transition is speeding up.

It took only 8 years for solar to go from 100 to 1,000 TWh... then it took only 3 years to go from 1,000 to 2,000 TWh. Solar is growing faster than any source of electricity in history ☀️

"But solar is negligible..." In 2024, global solar generation reached the size of India's entire electricity demand and avoided emissions equivalent to the emissions from the entire US power sector. We have to keep the counterfactual in mind. Where would we be without solar?

Relying on imported gas puts Mexico at risk of price spikes, currency shocks, supply disruptions, and costly subsidies 🇲🇽 The alternative? A 45% renewables share by 2030 could cut gas imports by 20%, save $1.6 billion every year, and create 434K jobs. ember-energy.org/latest-insight…

Storage is critical for driving out fossil fuel generators and make better use of renewable energy. I’m quoted in the LA Times today on why batteries are so important and increasingly cost-effective. latimes.com/business/story…

Despite all the negativity in parts of the press: Change is happening. It’s not a straight line but things are moving. More and more people understand that relying on increasingly volatile and expensive fossil fuel imports is not a viable pathway.

NEW | Solar is now California’s #1 electricity source ☀️ Over the past 12 months (to April), solar generated more electricity than any other source in California — surpassing gas for the first time in history. Rapid solar + battery deployment will keep this trend going 🔋⚡️
