There are elements of this fantasy world that are recognizable to our students who have a South East Asian background. But, as an adult with a sense of history, there are elements here that raise a lot of questions about regimes, monarchy and what is legal vs. what is just. 😍

Way to go out with a bang! I’ve seen so much evidence of learning through poetry. Some kids chose to perform poems at their poetry slam by others and some shared their own work. The kids, their performances and their work have been phenomenal! 😍 #fhhighlights

Even though this book has its predictable moments, it’s contemplative and even just the gentle reminder to enjoy the life you have is worth the read. Between this and Sal and Gabby Break the Universe I now have an understanding of String Theory! 😂

This book was a humanizing look at Afghanistan’s history through the eyes of a girl who escapes unimaginable violence and then deals with the trauma and its fallout in ways that are right and wrong but that lead to resolution that is right. So interesting and well written!!
