Perhaps one reason teens are disrespectful is because adults in their lives speak to them in a disrespectful manner. Common courtesy should exist between parents, authority figures and teens. Parents, be conscious of how you address your teen.

Teenager is not a Biblical term nor is it a Biblical concept. We will get from teens what we expect from teens. If we will raise the bar, I promise most will rise to meet it.

While I'm on the subject, let me add a little more. You begin parenting teens when they are toddlers. It's impossible to wake up on their 13th birthday and shift your parenting style. You teach them how to communicate early by the way you communicate with them!
