According to Columbia by-laws, police are not supposed to be allowed on campus without the consent of the faculty. President Shafik does *not* have our approval for this raid; she has not even asked our approval. This promises to be a horrifying dereliction of faculty governance

This week on Explain It to Me, Sommer asks why some of the foods we eat here are banned in other countries. 𝐊𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐬 and Melanie Benesh give us an answer that's...spooky. link.chtbl.com/explainit

Over 30 years of inaction is far too long. A ban on Red 3 is not only legally required, but it is also doable – alternatives for foods are widely available. We must push the U.S. FDA and President Donald J. Trump to ban Red 3 before the end of this Congress.

Huge win for consumers today! Thanks to Center for Science in the Public Interest for longtime advocacy on this issue and for leading on this petition, which EWG was happy to join. Great that Dr. Robert M. Califf & U.S. FDA was finally able to get this across the finish line

🚨UPDATE on Lithium plant fire near "Salad Bowl of America" (produces 70% of U.S. greens): 2 weeks later, scientists find big spike in Nickel, Manganese, & Cobalt in soil 2 miles away. NYU toxicologist tells me at high levels, metals "can get into certain produce or fruit" 🧵

Staffing is one of the biggest challenges to U.S. FDA U.S. FDA Human Foods Program getting toxic chemicals out of food. Axing the new (desperately needed) hires bodes poorly for Trump/RFK’s #MAHA agenda apnews.com/article/fda-jo…

I’ve spent the last 8 years working on a book about forever chemicals, or #PFAS, and the chemical industry’s decades-long campaign to cover up their dangers. What I discovered along the way is more disturbing than I could have imagined, and yet the journey has left me deeply

There is no scientific or legal basis for arguing that PFOA and PFOS are not extremely hazardous substances. They are toxic at levels much lower, in some cases orders of magnitude lower, than many (most?) other CERCLA hazardous substances. nytimes.com/2025/08/28/cli…

Please put people ahead of #PFAS @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom. @andrewsimmern is right: we don’t need to poison our friends and neighbors to have non-stick pans. nytimes.com/2025/10/08/opi…
