A huge win for the Des Moines Local 4 Firefighters Union at the Capitol. Over a year after their bill failed to make it to the debate floor, the Senate has approved legislation that will expand coverage for firefighters with cancer. Local 5 News


Newton’s Moose Lodge 923, built in 1948, went up in flames Sunday night. The last truck left at about 5:15 this morning. Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik says the roof was engulfed when crews arrived. No known injuries or cause. Before shot is from Google Earth. Local 5 News






After working through Wednesday and into Thursday morning (nearly 24 hours!), Iowa lawmakers are close to wrapping up the 2025 legislative session. The Senate adjourned just after 6 a.m, and the House just gaveled out at 6:31 am. #ialegis Local 5 News

Major turnout for the No Kings Day protest in Des Moines today. Around 4,000 people signed up to attend, but total attendance was likely even higher based on the crowds we saw. Attendees chanted, delivered speeches, and ended with a march around the Capitol. Local 5 News
