This might be the perfect time to listen to this conversation I had with Anna as districts are completing fall benchmark assessments or getting ready to shortly. There might be a few surprises and hopefully a lot of yes moments for teachers.

All the feels reading this one. 🥺 So much regret over what I didn’t know in the past, yet thankful that this will never (again?) happen to one of my students, or their parents and families. No teacher blame until we know better. Then, no excuses.

I'm so thankful to hear that my book is helpful for teachers ... clear and concise is what I was going for, and so far teachers seem to agree. ♥️

This is the important question. And it should certainly be asked for an approach that requires intense work on the part of the teacher.

Truth bombs about how much instructional time is spent in assessments that do not inform instruction or are not reliable. Thanks for this Anna Geiger Sean Morrisey. What is said in this podcast rings so true. We need to rethink the assessments we are administering and the why.

In an IEP meeting last week, I had to strongly advocate against an instructional coach's suggestion to set a reading goal focused on nonsense words. She argued that the data indicated he struggles specifically with nonsense words and fluency. It doesn’t have to be this hard!

Yes! This is why "fidelity" to a program doesn't always work...we often need to add in more opportunities to respond through reading and writing.

Thinking today about how thankful I am for a mom who wrote stories for me when I was learning to read. This notebook is over 40 years old. ❤️
