I have been alerted to the fish doorbell, where you watch a live stream of a canal and if you see a fish you ring to let them through the lock. I am delighted. visdeurbel.nl/en/the-fish-do…

Why are we so comfortable denigrating the creative output of our grandmothers? It may seem insignificant within the context of much more urgent global issues, but in a new piece for Hyperallergic, I argue that it is symptomatic of the systematic devaluation of feminized labor.

I intend to BEGIN the paper I am supposed to PRESENT next month at a conference but I found some Victorian era travel guides to Barbados written by a bunch of white English & American dudes and I can't stop reading them. Maybe I just make my presentation on this instead?

I am looking for literary descriptions of 19th C. Newfoundland (island specific) interior decoration. I've found a 1980 article on outport furniture but am hoping to find detailed accounts of decorative arts, types of objects, folk art, etc. Any body know?!

I am re-visiting an essay I wrote two years ago to submit to something and wow-ee is it bad! Funny how even a year or two of practice in anything can make so much difference. I am almost too embarrassed to look at it let alone submit it 🤡

I'm coming to NL next week, on a lookout for #sailorsvalentines. If you live in the Conception Bay North or St. John's areas and own one of these souvenirs, please let me know! #heritageNL #Carbonear #NLhistory

This looks like a fantastic opportunity for any folklorists out there looking to do a funded PhD - any Folklore Studies MA students who enjoyed Owen Davies module on the Folklore of Landscape would be perfect!

Two days before I begin my fieldwork travels the world has an IT problem cancelling flights everywhere 🙃 fingers crossed it will be fixed by Sunday!

didn't quite realize that starting fieldwork would slightly resemble detective work. but then again, I'm trying to find obscure 19th centuries in small-town NL so.... perhaps I had a little too much confidence going into this 🤡

Some of the most frustrating research is genealogy. I wish I could communicate with the ghosts of my ancestors to ask them many questions but mainly? WHERE WERE YOU BORN. A simply town name would be great.
